Why do men need to cover up?
For their protection! Men who are shirtless or scantily clad in public or in the presence of a woman who is not a relative or their escort are putting themselves at risk by inviting inappropriate sexual attention and advances from women. When a man is shirtless, he is putting himself in peril and engagers all men through negative social norming. Additionally, women who are repeatedly subjected to exposed male flesh are prone to distraction and, in extreme cases, sexual violence. It is a man’s responsibility to prevent this by covering up.
What happens to men who do not cover-up?
Men who choose to go shirtless are at risk of damaging their reputation and their sense of self-worth. Each man is a precious pearl. They defile themselves each time they allow a woman to gaze lustfully upon their bare chest.
Do men need to cover more than their torso?
While mom encourages men to cover up for the sake of decency and social cohesion, ultimately, the decision to cover up is his choice. The men in my life put themselves in danger by going shirtless in public; what can I do?
Loose morals and lax social norms not only hurt men but their loved ones as well. It can be difficult to witness a man you love debase himself and put himself in danger. At mom, we are committed to making the modest choice the easy choice. Consider bringing him to one of our events when he can receive a free t-shirt and be exposed to wholesome male role models, such as our male Supplicants. Meanwhile, you can review our literature and seek the counsel of our experienced female escorts.
Scare tactics work – up to a point. Make sure the man in your life knows the risks and the facts. But, in our experience, exposure to pious men and the embrace of a like-minded community can work wonders in helping families find their way along the righteous path of decency.
Is it OK for men to be shirtless when alone, with other men, or at home with family?
We always like to say with our male Supplicants, “when in doubt, stay devout.” While it is relatively safe for men to be shirtless while alone, he will still know he is impure in his heart. Additionally, the risks for shirtless men are minimal when in the company of other men, but consider how this situation could foster dangerous laxity. Remember that male modesty is a positive, affirming path and that men have the opportunity to uplift their brothers with their choice to cover up. Lastly, each family is different, and it is at the discretion of the female head of the household to decide what level of male modesty makes her feel the most comfortable in her home.
How young is too young; when does my son need to start covering up?
There comes a time in each mother’s life when she will come to the difficult realization that her boy has become a man, and when that happens, it is time for him to cover up. You may notice your son will want to start spending more time alone, perhaps locked in his bedroom. Or he will start taking more time in the bathroom. This behavior is his way of showing that he is becoming aware of the effect his bare flesh has on women. It is perfectly natural for young men to experience shame, embarrassment, sheepishness, and low self-worth during this time.
